  • Multiplier Event

    On September 14, CLEO invited Professor Charles Shaw for a public lecture to discuss National Memories of an Imperial War: Commemorative Practices of World War II in Soviet and Post-Soviet Central Asia. During his lecture, Professor Shaw delved into a fascinating exploration of the enduring National Memories surrounding an Imperial War, specifically focusing on the Commemorative Practices associated with World War II in the regions of Soviet and Post-Soviet Central Asia. This captivating discourse provided an insightful and comprehensive analysis of how the memory of World War II has evolved and persisted in the collective consciousness of these diverse and historically significant territories.

  • Transnational partners’ meeting

    During the summer university, the partners of the CLEO consortium gathered together for a crucial meeting aimed at both reviewing the progress achieved thus far in the project and strategizing for the upcoming phases. This collaborative meeting served as a pivotal juncture in the project's timeline, where the participants convened to assess the project's trajectory and chart a course for the next set of actions.

  • Third partnership transnational meeting: Patras, Greece

    The partnership held its third transnational meeting at the University of Patras on May 18-21, 2023 where all the partners met at the Department of Educational Science and Early Childhood Education. The first day was dedicated to the presentation of the partners’ contributions to the manual of the online course (PR2) and planning and coordinating CLEO Summer University including the review of the draft program and practicalities for the selected students. After an update of the dissemination activities, the partners had a common dinner with a wonderful sunset view. During the following days, the partners agreed on the programme of the online course and were introduced by the representatives of the University of Akureyri to Canva for the preparation of the materials for the course. During the meeting in Patras the partners had the possibility to explore the most significant places related to the National Uprising against the Ottoman Empire and the memorial site and museum of Kalavryta.

  • Project presentation at the State University of Milan (IT)

    On March 28, 2023 organized by Giulia Lami, Professor of History of Eastern Europe and Director of the Centre of Foreign Policy Studies and moderated by Mauro Elli, Associate Professor at the Department of Historica Studies, ARMES progetti coordinates an online public seminar with speakers from the partner Universities of Akureyri, Patras and Serbia. The seminar: “Culture Memory in Europe: Heroes and Victims in the Creation of a European “ introduces Italian students to the contribution of the CLEO project to the practices of memory-making after WWII and the call for participation in the Summer University in September 2023 at the University of Belgrade.

  • Call for participation to the CLEO Summer University in Belgrade (SRB)

    The Summer University, hosted by the University of Belgrade, will be held from September 10-16 2023. The students from the project partner institutions will explore the theme « Cultural Memory in Europe » through a range of discussions, seminars and activities and will contribute to preparing an exhibition which will be shown at the European House in Brussels. Applications should be submitted before April 16, 2023. More information will follow soon.

  • Public lecture at the Central European University, Vienna (AT)

    On February 21, 2023 at the Department of History and Pasts at the Centre for Historical Studies of the University of Vienna, Professor Markus Meckl gave a public hybrid lecture chaired by Professor Constantin Iordachi about the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising.

  • Public lecture by Markus Meckl at the University of Latvia, Riga (LV)

    On November 15, 2022 at the Faculty of History and Philosophy of the University of Latvia, Professor Markus Meckl of the University of Akureyri in Iceland gave an in-presence lecture "Latvia's Post-Heroic Identity", with a focus on the role of hero and victim in Latvia's collective memory practices. A total of 40 people attended this public event.

  • Multiplier Event Two

    The second CLEO Multiplier event was organised during the second partnership meeting in September 2022. The conference and workshop were held at the University of Akureyri. The aim of this second event was to present and explore with the participants the way through which certain European figures or events have contributed to the creation of the European cultural memory and how they have shaped the national and European identity.

  • Second partnership transnational meeting: Akureyri, Iceland

    The partnership held its second transnational meeting in Akureyri on September 11-13, 2022. After a turbulent whale watching excursion, they spent two days performing activities for the project. The first day was dedicated to planning and organisation, as well as a workshop on online teaching. During the second day, the partners presented the project result number 1 to an audience of staff and students.

  • Multiplier Event One

    The first CLEO Multiplier Event was a public lecture organized by the Central European University on May 11, 2022. Professor Constantinos Iordachi invited Markus Meckl, Professor of History at the University of Akureyri, to present and discuss with the students the case of Latvia which had refused the idea to create the figure of a national hero.

  • First partnership transnational meeting: Brussels, Belgium

    The partnership held its first transnational meeting in Brussels on March 27-28, 2022. After a team-building excursion to the Soignes forest, they enjoyed a day of productive discussions and planning.
